United Parcel Services, Inc. recently expanded and improved one of its regional parcel handling distribution hubs located in Horsham Township, Montgomery County, PA. The project scope encompassed a full geotechnical investigation performed by Earth Engineering Incorporated including infiltration testing, pavement design, and inspection services. The project consisted of 27 acres with 450,000 square feet of parking construction. The scope included enlargement of the PA-DEP regulated Penn-Allan Dam (DEP #46-267) as a stormwater management basin; an underground stormwater management system; multiple segmental block retaining walls; porous pavement; and traditional flexible pavement and rigid pavement (concrete) construction. EEI provided full inspection services including bulk earthwork quality control for compaction and moisture control, as well as materials acceptance, retaining wall constructed to design requirements, subgrade inspection, pavement component installation for specification compliance, and concrete field and laboratory testing. EEI also provided Clean Fill Testing for the project.
