Hamilton Crossings Shopping Center is a $140-million, 63-acre, 570,000-square-foot multi-store and restaurant complex located between Hamilton Boulevard and Route 222 Bypass in Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. The Goldenberg Group and TCH Development have joined forces in a joint venture and are developing this former mine site into a new and groundbreaking Lehigh Valleyshopping center. Major stores such as Costco, Whole Foods, and Nordstrom Rack anchor the complex, all of which are new Staples to the region. Shoppers can also expect to see new shopping stores such as Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW), PetSmart, Old Navy, Pier 1 Imports, Ulta Cosmetics, Rallyhouse, AT&T, Hand & Stone, Luxury Nails, Vision Works, and Fine Wine and Good Spirits State Store. Also new to the Lehigh Valley are exciting restaurants, which will include Smashburger, Core Greens, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Anthony’s Coal-Fired Pizza, and Corner Bakery.
EEI performed an initial geotechnical assessment of the site, which in alerted the developer to significant underlying soil issues. This site contains Mine Wash Soils, which are considered to be unstable and unusable for construction purposes. EEI has provided Quality Control Inspection and testing for the entire site, including removal of the Mine Wash and replacement with suitable materials. Overall, this helped the contractor by saving significant time in the excavation of unsuitable soils, which in turn has assisted in the scheduling of site activities, translating into significant cost-savings for the owners. Since pre-construction, EEI has and continues to provide full inspection services for the shopping complex, PennDOT roadway for James D. Morrissey, Inc., and concrete testing and inspection services for Kinsley Construction, Inc.
