Main Line Health Lankenau Medical Center, located just outside of Philadelphia in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, is in the process of adding an approximate $53 million Emergency Room renovation and expansion. The 32,000 square foot expansion will include several trauma treatment areas and a large triage area.
Included in the expansions is a below grade parking garage with surface parking above. The building has been designed by Francis Cauffmanand incorporates the possibility for future vertical expansion. EEI conducted a Geotechnical Investigation and worked with O’Donnell and Naccarato, the project structural engineer, for the foundation design. A series of 2.5 ft to 4.0 ft drilled shafts (caissons) bearing on and within rock were selected for the foundations. They have been designed to accommodate the future vertical expansion. Other services performed by EEI included an infiltration investigation and testing program coordinated with Chester Valley Engineers, clean fill testing, segmental retaining wall design for Hidden Springs Landscaping, Inc. and construction inspection services for the development of the site.
