Geo-Congress 2019 was held in Philadelphia at the end of March 2019, and EEI’s Geotechnical Design Division’s director Jay McKelvey was the Chair of the local organizing committee, assisting with planning and organizing the event. The conference drew over 1,400 participants from across the country and featured keynote lectures, such as Professor James Mitchell’s presentation of his involvement of the geotechnical investigations conducted on the Moon during the Apollo missions. Over 400 technical papers were presented, supported by an huge exhibit hall. One of the Geo-Institute (GI) Board members had this to say of the conference:
“GI and ASCE Staff and GI Geo-Congress Volunteers,
I would like to personally congratulate and thank you for all of your work in making this conference, and I am sure my colleagues on the GI Board would agree, the best ever. From the opening presentation from Governor Rendell, to the amazing Geo-Pit talks and the technical sessions, there was excellent educational/engineering value provided to our members. The evening events were also great! We even had music provided by our very own GI member and part of the organizing committee, Jay McKelvey ( Great job Jay). The creativity in putting together the entire program from start to finish was truly outstanding and it was pulled off seamlessly.
So thanks again for all of the work you did to make this the best GI conference ever.”
